Murah Soares Afro-Brazilian Dance
Performance  -  Choreography

This multi-cultural formation of dancers, singers and drummers is based upon the Afro-Brazilian culture and its deep spirituality. Traditional rhythms from Bahia sweep the audience up and away in an infectious and irresistable wave of music and dance. The dancers pirouette in their swinging skirts and costumes of white and yellow with fresh flowers for Oxum, the Afro-Brazilian goddess of beauty. One of the main interests of this project is the collaboration of various nations and races, acting together to combat hostility against foreigners.

Murah - Carneval Of The Cultures, Berlin

Afoxé Loni has been opening the festivities and leading the parade at Berlin's Karneval der Kulturen (Carneval of Cultures) already since 1997, and is received with the utmost enthusiasm. This successful combination of dance/percussion workshop followed by street performance has led Afoxé Loni to be invited to numerous international festivals - Manchester, Dublin, and Mailand, among others - it has indeed become an international project. Afoxé Loni combines dance and percussion in a highly unique way. Murah Soares (choreographer) developed the project in cooperation with Dudu Tucci (musical direction) and Krista Zeissig (organisation).

Afoxé Loni's activities are, however, not only limited to this successfully proven workshop and performance concept. A professional performance troupe has taken shape and developed parallel to the project, and now presents a sophisticated stage show with various programmes. Choreographies for these stage performances were developed by Murah Soares.

With a group of about 20 artists, and under the direction of Murah Soares and Dudu Tucci, Afoxé Loni performed at events such as the Berlin "Reichstag", at Germany´s 10-year reunification anniversary, at the the closing celebration at Expo 2000 (world´s fair) in Hannover (Germany), the Volvo Ocean Race in Kiel, Germany, or at festivals in Dublin ((Ireland), Manchester (UK), London (UK), Milan (Italy), Førde (Norway) and Offenburg (Germany).
